Winter arrives ...

"The world as a living being - one nature, one soul ... and how everything feeds into that single experience, moves with a single motion ... and how everything helps produce everything else. Spun and woven together". Marcus Aurelius, B.IV, p. 40

CASCADES

See me see ...

Cascading imagery

forests and trees

through seasons

and sunsets

of familiarity ...

Oceans

that speak

through fluid memory ...

dawn,

of timeless uncertainty ...

A Desert

of mindful remedies

(through) solitude and clarity

causal

simplicity

Under canopies of ageless blessings

through paths of grace

It’s all about vision, process, and thought ...

cycled through seasons,

It’s all about vision ...

AGATE, © 2011. Acrylic paint, ink, and epoxy on wood.

Agate is reputed to have qualities of bringing stability to life - and to the 'ancients', it rendered the wearer invisible. Discovered in prehistoric France (30K B.C.) and valued during early Egyptian Civilization, our appreciation of its' qualities and coloration have accompanied the development of human history.

"We have various abilities, present in all rational creatures as is the nature of rationality itself.
Just as Nature takes every obstacle, every impediment, and works around it -
so too, a rational being can turn each setback into raw material and use it to achieve its goal."
Marcus Aurelius, "Meditations": Book 8, S.35

Desert Painting ...

Mojave Painting Project (narrative)

I’ve been drawn to this area of the Mojave Desert since the early 1980’s ...

Apparently desolate - lacking ordinary routine,

this solitude appeals to me ...

allowing focus of a different scale,

on undistracted beauty ...

The perspective is unified,

and clearly distinguished ...

self, earth, and cosmos ...

The spirit of this place,

is ancient and palpable ...

Aquatic - primordial, burial grounds ...

bridging the prehistoric past with a distant future -

between here and beyond time ...

I’ve participated in Native American rituals of this region -

continued for millennia ...

experiences that reveal a profound reverence for this land -

earth as a living and breathing organism,

land with Soul ...

This landscape offers perspective,

with no shortage of inspiration -

where imagination runs free ...

Nature is the repository of answers to all questions ...

I came here to observe and learn -

if conditions prevailed,

to paint ...

My work takes cues from Nature -

especially, from what appears as a random flow of simultaneous events;

where information’s magnitude is paralleled only by nature’s variety ...

The desert simplifies by separating relevance -

the arbitrary from necessary;

with precise transitions,

of broad-stroked eloquence

and evolutionary expressionism ...

Sometimes,

the consequence of modernity

is more visible through nature ...

continuing ...

Seven months since my last entry - a period of intense work, study, and re-defining ...
The majority of the time has been tremendously satisfying - what more could I ask for?
A strange world we live in - and it seems to get stranger by the day ...
I could resort to that over-used cliche: "this isn't what I signed up for" - but who did?
Especially in this era of re-negotiating promises and truth.
Lets just say that I imagined a different outcome being a product of the 60's, Kennedy, Beatles, and Disney - but life goes on ...
